about

This song was written with teens from the Wish Upon A Teen Foundation. We got together with teens who are passionate about music and asked that they all write a verse about how they feel/what they would want to say to anyone who is suffering from a life-altering (or even ending) sickness. We brought them into the award-winning Mix Factory One Studios and created an opportunity to see how music is made behind the scenes. They helped as the song was brought to life from scratch, and then each got to record their verse in a professional studio booth. This song is bringing awareness to the many people behind closed curtains that struggle with sickness and live with it on a day to day basis, as well as to help raise money for the Wish Upon A Teen cause. They will decorate hospital rooms for the kids, they do spa days, take some teens out to concerts or sports events, they do an annual prom, and so much more. All proceeds of the Single will go to the foundation.

"The teenage years are filled with many anxieties related to self-esteem, body-image and planning for the future, For teens also faced with a severe life-limiting medical condition, the transition from childhood to adulthood can be especially challenging. Since 2011, Wish Upon A Teen has worked on behalf of these exceptional teens by offering creative social opportunities designed to promote peer interaction and build self-esteem."
-Nancy Sovran (Executive Director for Wish Upon A Teen)

lyrics

Chorus-SARAH FORTSCH
This is our anthem, oh do you hear it?
We lift our voices, do you receive it?
This is where our song starts
This is the hymn of our hearts
Where our song starts
It's the hymn of our hearts

V1-TREVOR SULLIVAN
Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in my thoughts
Worried about what's to come next
Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in my thoughts
Worried about what's to come next

V2-DESI SMITH
It might get tough, but don't give up
Freak out, take a deep breath and face the next day
There's always another chance in the dance of life
You are you and not what you're fighting

Chorus-SARAH FORTSCH
This is our anthem, oh do you hear it?
We lift our voices, do you receive it?
This is where our song starts
This is the hymn of our hearts
Where our song starts
It's the hymn of our hearts

V3-HOPE SOVRAN
Hear our song, sing it loud
Losing hope is not allowed
Hear our song, sing it loud
Losing hope is not allowed

V4-BRITTANY NAYLOR
Don't sit and ask why, it's a waste of time
You gotta get by, everything will be fine
Believe in yourself and accept the help
Do the math it's probable
You're made to overcome an obstacle

Chorus-SARAH FORTSCH
This is our anthem, oh do you hear it?
We lift our voices, do you receive it?
This is where our song starts
This is the hymn of our hearts
Where our song starts
It's the hymn of our hearts

Bridge 1- JOHN DANIELS
I'm not a fighter or a lover, I'm a writer
Burn me with the lighter but I'm only going higher
Quickly getting tired, but I'll only be inspired
So while you're sitting on your bed wishing you were dead
I'll inspire you instead
Replace your regret with righteous intent
Cause when your life has been spent, who will be there in the end?

Bridge 2-KEEGAN DANIELS
I'm not trying to look for fame
I'm here cause I want people to know your name
The ones who made it through thick and thin, just pick up your chin
I promise you it'll get better, you too can win
The way you're feeling shouldn't be thrown into the garbage bin
You are strong, I don't even know where to begin
But if I didn't address this, I'd consider it a sin
Because I promise you can win

Chorus-SARAH FORTSCH
This is our anthem, oh do you hear it?
We lift our voices, do you receive it?
This is where our song starts
This is the hymn of our hearts
Where our song starts
It's the hymn of our hearts
